Ecommerce Aggregator is a company that buys many online stores and runs them together as one portfolio. It does not operate a single store as its own brand. Modern Retail describes OpenStore's version of the model as an attempt to build a Shopify-focused holding company. It usually pays cash, closes fast, and prices its offer against the whole portfolio, not one store's story.
Not to Be Confused With
- Brokerage
- a brokerage never buys the business, only represents its seller; an aggregator is itself the buyer, and keeps the store afterward.
