TTM is trailing twelve months. It counts the most recent twelve months of data back from today. It is not a fixed calendar year or fiscal year. Ecommerce valuations price on this rolling window instead. It captures a store's current run rate, growth or decline included, in a way a stale annual figure cannot.
How Kairos Uses a TTM Window
Kairos's own verified snapshot is built the same way: the trailing-twelve-month totals behind a listing's band, its implied multiple, and its growth trend all roll forward from the store's connected order data every month, rather than resetting on a fixed date. A store connected in March and one connected in September get judged on the same rolling twelve-month shape, not two different calendar slices, and the window moves again the next time the store's numbers refresh. A seller who wants a higher trailing figure cannot simply wait for a new fiscal year to start, because there is no fixed year to wait for.
Not to Be Confused With
- Calendar Year
- A calendar year is fixed to January through December; TTM rolls forward every month regardless of the date.
