Refund Rate is the share of a store's revenue given back to customers. It is measured against total order value over the same period. Kairos treats 2 percent as the healthy line. A listing fails past 4 percent. That number comes straight from the store's own order data, not a seller's summary.
Why an Empty Ledger Is Not a Clean Pass
A rate needs a denominator. If a store had no orders at all in the trailing period, the refund rate computes to zero, but that zero means nothing sold, not that refunds are healthy. Kairos treats that case as a caution rather than a pass, because a green result manufactured out of an empty ledger is exactly the kind of false proof the whole verification pipeline exists to rule out. A genuinely healthy rate has to be measured against real order volume for the number to mean anything. A high refund rate is also read as a signal about the business itself, not just its bookkeeping: it usually points to a product quality problem, a sizing or description mismatch, or a fulfilment issue serious enough to be worth asking the seller about directly.
